Blankie 2.0 comes to iPhone and iPad
A major update to the free, open-source ambient sound mixer is now available on iPhone and iPad, with CarPlay support, custom sound imports, a sleep timer and a new Liquid Glass design.
TULSA, Okla. — June 23, 2026 — Blankie 2.0 is here. The open source ambient sound mixer is making its debut on iPhone, iPad and CarPlay alongside a revamped macOS app rebuilt for Liquid Glass. Best of all, Blankie is still free.
Blankie 2.0 adds 10 new high-quality sounds (a total of 24) that users can layer and adjust to build their perfect soundscapes. Blankie listeners can now also extend their ambient sound library with custom sound imports from Files or Voice Memos. Blankie analyzes and automatically adjusts imports to ensure their volumes blend seamlessly with existing sounds.
Another big feature is support for Apple CarPlay. When the Blankie app is connected to CarPlay, users can access their saved presets and sounds in the car, and even use a feature called Quick Mix and simple now playing controls. Blankie is the first ambient sound app with CarPlay support and is perfect for parents and passengers who need to keep the peace on the road.
Even with the big 2.0 update and new platforms, everything in Blankie is staying 100% free. There's no ads, no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, no accounts and no tracking.
"I made Blankie for myself, because I wanted a simple way to loop the kinds of sounds that help me focus. Almost everything I found for Mac was either browser-based, full of ads and trackers or behind a subscription. After Blankie launched on the Mac, everyone asked when it was coming to iOS, so I spent the last year rebuilding it from the ground up for iPhone and iPad. I'm so excited to finally share it with everyone, and I can't wait to see how people use the new CarPlay features."
Cody Bromley, developer of Blankie
Blankie was first released on the Mac in early 2025 as a love letter to Blanket, the Linux app that inspired it. Blankie has been featured by Apple in "Best New Apps and Updates," it ranked as the #4 Health & Fitness Product of the Month on Product Hunt in May 2025, and the German magazine Mac & i placed it #1 on its list of "21 Freeware-Perlen für den Mac." Since launch, contributors around the world have translated Blankie into 12 languages. Today it has a global average 4.8 star App Store rating and has been downloaded more than 10,000 times across the App Store, GitHub and Homebrew.
Blankie is available now on the App Store for iPhone, iPad and Mac. The latest version of Blankie requires at least iOS/iPadOS 26 or macOS 26.
