About Blankie
Blankie is a free, open-source ambient sound mixer for iPhone, iPad, Mac and CarPlay. Turn on sounds like rain, ocean waves or a crackling fireplace, set each one to its own volume and let the mix play while you sleep, focus or unwind. It's made by independent developer Cody Bromley and inspired by Blanket, the free, open-source Linux app by Rafael Mardojai and contributors.
What Blankie stands for
- Free for everyone, forever. Blankie was built on the idea that it's hard to fully relax if you're being charged, bombarded with ads or having your privacy invaded. Every feature is included, with no ads, subscriptions or in-app purchases.
- Your data stays yours. There's no account, no analytics and no tracking. Every sound is bundled in the app, so it plays offline, and your presets, settings and imported sounds never leave your device.
- Open to everyone. The code for the app and this website is on GitHub, so anyone can read it, change it or help make it better.
- Credit where it's due. Blankie is built on openly licensed sounds, volunteer translations and other open-source projects. Everyone who made them is named on the Credits page, and keeping Blankie free is how that generosity gets passed along.
Who uses it
Blankie has been downloaded more than 25,000 times, and schools and organizations have deployed it to more than 1,000 devices through Apple School Manager and Apple Business Manager. It's available in 12 languages and keeps getting better thanks to contributors and translators around the world.
